The ten destinations that are now much cheaper to visit than last year

FOREIGN holidays have seen eye-watering price hikes, but some hotspots promise to be cheaper in 2024 than they were this year.

Across many countries, the cost of going on holiday is getting more expensive with air travel and hotel prices being heavily affected.

While many popular holiday destinations have become pricier, several places have bucked the trend.

The flight comparison website Skyscanner recently published its Travel Trends 2024 Report.

They compiled their report based on factors like booking data, consumer behaviour, and their own research.

For UK holidaymakers value for money remained a key factor when booking a trip, with the cost of a hotel and flight prices being two of the biggest factors that determined the destination.

Despite the squeeze on finances, over a quarter of UK travellers have budgeted to spend more on travel in 2024.

But while Brits have been increasing their budgets, there are some destinations that have seen a drop in the price of airfare from the UK.

Flights to Faro in the Algarve from the UK have seen the biggest drop in prices, with tickets falling by nearly 24 per cent.

Sun Online Travel found flights to Faro in 2024 from £17 for a one-way ticket.

Food and drink is cheap too, with a bottle of wine costing as little €4.50 (£3.91), meanwhile, a meal out at a mid-range restaurant will cost €10 (£8.68).

Airfares to Algiers, Algeria, saw a similar drop, with ticket prices coming in at 23 per cent lower compared to the previous year.

Flights to Algiers can be snapped up for as little as £70 for a one-way ticket in 2024.

Food and drink is even cheaper in Algiers, with a meal out at an inexpensive restaurant costing as little as £2.39 per person.

And from next year, air travel to Nice, inFrance are expected to be 19 per cent cheaper compared to this year’s prices.

For those Brit holidaymakers looking to book a trip across the pond, popular destinations like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston have all seen a dip in prices too.

Naomi Hahn, Vice President of Strategy at Skyscanner said: “The cost of living, though, remains top of mind and our money-saving tools continue to rise in popularity.

“Our ‘Everywhere’ search, showing prices from the lowest to highest from airports to global destinations, is the top search destination for travellers globally this year.”

In addition to Skyscanner’s ‘Everywhere’ search, there are other tricks Brit holidaymakers can use to bag cheap flights.

Travellers can set up price alerts for certain flights on sites like Skyscanner and Google Flights.

These flight alerts let customers know if there are any significant price changes to routes they want to take.

While spotting good airfares can sometimes feel like a matter of luck, there are also several newsletters like Secret FlyingAirfarewatchdog, and the Flight Deal that focus on sharing flight deals.

In a video on TikTok, one budget traveller revealed that he always books his flights through Google Flights for the best deals.

Known as ndainternet, on the social media platform, he said that the search engine shows the cheapest airfares for several different destinations, allowing you to pick the cheapest one for a holiday.

Here are the six tricks travellers should use to find cheap flights.
