The superyacht-like jet that could be the new way to travel – with onboard bedrooms and bars

A NEW way of flying could see you boarding a superyacht-like jet – with bedrooms and private en-suites.

The Airlander, a “hybrid airship” is different from planes in that it doesn’t need a runway to take off, just a flat airfield like a helicopter.

The ship is the length of a football pitch, and the height of six double-decker busses, according to the Telegraph.

Inside the jet is a cockpit and huge propeller, but it’s the rest of the airship that passengers will enjoy.

The Airlander 10, designed in partnership with Design Q, has a large living area with a seating area and bar.

Not only will there be huge glass windows – some of which open – but there are even glass panels in the floor

Guests will be able to stay in one of eight bedrooms, each with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom that includes a toilet and shower.

Full connectivity, inflight WiFi and dining and entertainment experiences would also be on the airship.

The aircraft could be operational by 2026, with Spanish airline Air Nostrum and some luxury cruise ships taking an interest.

And a fully electric Airlander 50, one of the larger aircraft, hopes to be possible by 2033.

CEO of Hybrid Air Vehicles, behind the Airlander, Tom Grundy said: “It’ll be more like travelling on a cruise ship than a plane.”

Don’t expect a fast journey either.

Its top speed will be 100mph, compared to a passenger plane’s top speed of more than 500mph.

However, Tom says that when you factor in air congestion and reduced boarding times, the time will be similar to short-haul flights.

Boarding will be similar to a ferry or train, rather than airport security.

Here are some other ways travel will change in the future, including 3D printed hotel buffets.

And new plane designs could get rid of the middle seat.
