St David’s in Pembrokeshire is the smallest city in the UK with only 2,000 people living there.

However, tourists visit during the summer with attractions including the city’s beautiful beaches and outdoor activities like boat tours.

Set in west Wales, St David’s is a two-hour drive from Swansea, and a three-hour drive from Cardiff, the Welsh capital.

And holidaymakers from Ireland can reach the seaside city on a passenger ferry from Rosslare too.

Visitors will need to take a ferry from Rosslare to Fishguard, which takes three and a half hours and costs £44 per person for a one-way ticket.

Even though it’s small, there are plenty of attractions in St David’s city centre including St David’s Cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace.

There are also several beaches nearby including Whitesands and Caerfai Beach.

Whitesands is a 40-minute walk from the centre of St David’s or a 10-minute journey in the car.

The blue flag beach is a famous spot among surfers, which makes it very popular during the summer months.

There’s also Caerfai Beach, which is just a 20-minute walk away.

Sandwiched between two cliffs, holidaymakers will need to make the steep walk down to spend an afternoon at the beach.

There are no facilities, so visitors will need to come prepared.

Meanwhile, for those who like to hike, there’s also the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

The 186-mile route connects seaside viewpoints from across Pembrokeshire and part of the route slices through St David’s.

Holidaymakers can also go on boat trips to nearby islands like Ramsey, Grassholm, Skomer, and Skokholm.

Visitors will be able to go island hopping with the chance to see puffins, porpoises, dolphins, and whales.

Other nearby attractions include Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm and St David’s Community Garden.

There are a range of accommodation options in the city including hotels, caravans, and B&BS.

For something a little different, guests can also book to stay in Roch Castle – a 12th Century castle that’s been transformed into a five-star hotel.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the city too including popular high-street chains like Pizza Express and the Giggling Squid.

Meanwhile, in North Wales, Colwyn Bay, in Denbighshire, has been named as a hidden gem thanks to its golden sands and a wide variety of water sports.

If you don’t fancy heading to Wales, the UK has some other amazing beaches.

Blackpool Sands in Devon was listed as the best in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller and even has its own music festival in the summer.

Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk, was voted one of the best beaches in the UK in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2023.

And one UK beach even has its own wild ponies.
