The nine new locations where Wilko stores are reopening as Poundland – and 33 more to follow within WEEKS

ANOTHER round of Wilko stores will reopen as Poundland shops this weekend.

It comes after Wilko’s last remaining sites shut for good on Sunday, October 8.

Poundland aims to open all the former Wilko stores it bought by the end of 2023Rex

The firm fell into administration on August 10 and since then a flurry of rivals bought a handful of stores.

Among those was discount chain Poundland, which purchased 71 stores and the first are opening in just a few days.

But Poundland has to scrap plans to take over one store in Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf after surveys done on the building showed the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC).

The retailer has already reopened 28 former Wilko’s stores since September 30.

But the reopenings have been pretty basic to begin as all stores will then receive a full makeover in 2024.

The shops will mostly include Poundland items but also a selection of Wilko products that weren’t sold during the closing-down sales.

But now, Poundland is opening another nine of these stores on Saturday, October 21, in:

Darren Kay, Poundland’s retail director, said: “We’re proud that to date, we’re the only retailer that’s delivered on its promise to re-open Wilko stores and offer roles to their people.

“In four short weeks, we’ll have opened 37 Wilko stores – an amazing achievement by hundreds of colleagues right across our Poundland business.

“I’d like to thank them for all the hard work that’s making sure these former Wilko stores begin their new Poundland journeys in such good shape.

“While more extensive refits will be scheduled for the new year, we look forward to welcoming customers old and new to their new stores this weekend.”

Separately, Poundland will also open a brand new store at Queens Retail Park in Stafford on Saturday.

The new store will feature Poundland’s widest ranges and create 15 new roles.

Poundland aims to open all the former Wilko stores it bought by the end of 2023.

The Range recently snapped up the Wilko brand, including the name and website, in a £5million deal with administrators.

B&M also purchased 51 stores which means more Wilko shops will be reopening in the near future.

It’s not yet confirmed which branches, but previously said it’ll give an update in November.

On Sunday, October 8, 2023 the last remaining sites shut for good to completely wipe the face of Wilko from our high streets.
