The London pub that has its own secret beach behind it

A PUB in London has got its own secret beach out the back that very few people know about.

Having a pint by the seaside is one of the best things to do in the summer months. However, those living in cities aren’t always able to do that.

In London, there’s a pub where punters can at least get the feeling of being by the seaside, without travelling to the coast.

The Prospect of Whitby is regularly voted as one of the best pubs in the capital.

As well as cosy decor, pub food and a shady beer garden, it also has its own little alleyway, which leads to a beachy area out the back.

Though the pub is a tranquil place to enjoy views of the Thames today, its past is far less peaceful.

The boozer used to be a haunt of smugglers and sailors and, in the 17th century, “Hanging” Judge Jefferys became a regular.

To celebrate, a replica gallows and noose sits out the back of the pub where the sand meets the river.

Although a bit eerie, it’s still a great place to visit on a sunny day when heading to the pub.

One person who was impressed with the outside area was Tiktoker Uk Hidden Gems (@ukhiddengems), who told their followers about the pub.

In a video, they said: “Have you seen this hidden beach next to this London pub?”

Although some weren’t sold on the idea of the Thames being “a beach” others were still impressed.

One wrote: “We went once, it is as you see. I was shocked it’s beautiful.”

Another said: “Great explanation. I will definitely find it now.”

While the Prospect of Whitby’s beach isn’t necessarily one you’d want to sunbathe on, there are pubs in the UK that do offer a true seaside boozer experience.

One of those places is Whitstable in Kent, with a famous pub overlooking the sea.

The Old Neptune is described online as an “intimate Victorian inn with period decor” that offers “pub-grub, plus live music”.

The Neppy, as it’s known to locals, sits right on Whitstable beach, meaning people can order themselves a cold pint, while sitting looking out to sea.

Customers love the unique experience it offers, with one even comparing it to holiday hotspots further afield.

In a review on TripAdvisor, they wrote: “Table service on the beach patio, with a varied menu and a good selection of beers.

“Went there specifically to try the local gin. and stayed for lunch, the fish selection box. Ideal for a beachside lunch. was just like being on the Costas.”

Meanwhile, these are some of the best hot tub staycations to book this year.

And these are some of the most tranquil staycation spots in the country.
