A LESSER-KNOWN Spanish holiday hotspot is soaring in popularity with visitors, and for good reason.
Most people heading to the north of Spain tend to visit places like Barcelona, or the beaches of Santander.

However, the city of Zaragoza is proving increasingly popular ahead of the summer holidays, with a 145 per cent increase in flight searches in the last month alone.
According to Skyscanner, it had the greatest increase in searches for any destination for travellers from the UK over the last 28 days.
Holidaymakers have plenty to explore in the city, with the towering Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar and Palacio de la Aljaferia among several historical sites that contribute to the city’s impressive skyline.
Parents can take kids for days out to the city’s aquarium, or any of the interesting museums, including the fire and firefighters museum and the Emoz origami museum.
There is also the museum of lanterns, which houses the different floats and lanterns that parade through the town on the night of October 13.
The deeply rooted tradition sees more than 200 lanterns and 15 floats proceed along a route that runs through the historic city centre as part of their Great Autumn Festival.
Elsewhere, there is the option of a day trip to the Monasterio de Piedra (Stone Monastery), which is a national park featuring several waterfalls.
However, there’s plenty more to see in the park as well.
World of Waterfalls said: “Some of the waterfalls were so impressive that even if the park didn’t feature so many, we would’ve been satisfied just with one or two of the major ones.
“Of course, overdelivering on waterfalls wasn’t the only thing this place had going for it.
“It also featured an extensive garden, a mirror lake flanked by red cliffs, deep and dripping caves, and let’s not forget the namesake monastery giving this place some historic credibility.”
Back in the city centre, Spanish culture can be sampled in El Tubo – a little maze of narrow pedestrianised streets, filled with tapas restaurants and taverns.

Spain.info describe the area as “a perfect place to enjoy the tradition of eating Spanish tapas in several different bars”.
Return flights from the UK can be booked online from around £40 in June, making it a pretty affordable place to get to.
Meanwhile, hotels in the city centre can be found from as little as £15pp per night.
Meanwhile, these are the cheapest all-inclusive holidays to Spain and Turkey.
And these are the eight best-rated family resorts in Tenerife from £564pp this summer.
