THE Premier League’s computer system allowed an unusual kit clash at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted that Luton and Arsenal appeared to be wearing virtually identical shorts.
Some fans complained of a kit clash during the gameRex
Luton’s black shorts looked no different on TV from the similar colours worn by the Gunners.
With Luton wearing orange shirts and socks and Arsenal dressed in mainly yellow, the two strips were surprisingly closely aligned.
Normal regulations impose strict kit rules to prevent match officials, spectators or TV viewers being confused.
But League rules DO allow teams to wear the same colour shorts or socks if there is “sufficient contrast” across the kits.
The strips worn in Tuesday night’s seven-goal thriller passed those requirements after being run through Prem software.
That technology has been designed to ensure the kits selected for any match are “identifiably different colours” and also to determine the “best possible kit combination” for any match.
Some fans online expressed difficulty with telling the kits apart.
One wrote on X: “I feel our away kits clash with Luton’s orange kit more than our blue/green third. Would like to see us wear it more.”
