But getting to the Maldives can be difficult, with flights that are both long and expensive.
These costs have forced holidaymakers to look for destinations that are closer to home instead.
TikTok channel epic.stays uploads videos of picturesque accommodation spots from around the world.
They recently shared a video about a lesser-known holiday resort that’s been compared to the Maldives.
A caption over the video read: “There’s a place in Africa with waters much bluer than the Maldives, welcome to Egypt‘s North Coast. The waters here are extremely blue like Gatorade (an American drink).”
In the footage, users could see crystal-clear waters lapping a white sandy beach.
Parasols, sunbeds, and deckchairs were dotted along the beach overlooking the clear waters.
The footage has been viewed more than 91,000 times, with users jumping into the comments to share their opinions.
One person wrote: “Those waters are bright blue.”
A second person added: “I’ve been to three different islands in the Maldives, and the water was the same colour blue.”
The footage was shot at the Al-Alamein Hotel on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast in the north of the country.
Set in Sidi Abd El Rahman Bay, the Al-Alamein Hotel lies right on the beach.
It’s home to 189 rooms, including several suites and villas.
There are also four restaurants and a bar, as well as an outdoor pool, and a kids’ pool.
Other features include a spa, a yoga room, and a fitness centre.
Holidaymakers have been raving about the hotel online too, with one person saying: “The location is exceptional. The close proximity to the beach and hearing the waves from the room are second to none.”
Another person added: “What an amazing location and facility, the beach is out of this world.”
Sun Online Travel have found rooms at the beachfront hotel from £92 per night per person.
The hotel is set in the Egyptian resort town of Marassi.
In addition to the beautiful blue beaches, nearby attractions include the Marina shopping centre and the Hassan II Mosque.
The resort town is in close proximity to neighbouring El Alamein, which has a number of attractions, including the El Alamein Military Museum.
Both British Airways and Egypt Air operate direct flights from the UK to Cairo, with prices starting from £99 for a one-way ticket.
The resort town of Marassi is a three-hour drive from Cairo Airport, with taxi hire and transfer bookable.
And this Egyptian hotel isn’t the only spot that’s been likened to the Maldives.
Beaches across Albania, including Ksamil, have been compared to the Maldives thanks to their sandy beaches, pristine waters, and wooden beach huts.
Another little-known island has also been dubbed an affordable alternative to the Maldives thanks to its stunning beaches & £1 beers.
A group of islands in the UK have been compared to the Maldives by both holidaymakers and travel experts alike.
The Isles of Scilly in Cornwall have sandy beaches, peaceful waters, and exotic wildlife.
