NEXT time you are in the hotel lift, you might want to check out all the floors.
Some resorts you’ll be surprised to find the number 13 is missing.

GettyLots of hotels don’t have a floor 13 due to superstitions[/caption]
This is because of the superstition that 13 is an unlucky number.
According to a 2007, 13 per cent of people said they wouldn’t like being given a room on floor 13.
Many hotels will instead go from floor 12 to 14, while some will use floors 12B instead.
A study by CityRealty found that just 55 out of 629 buildings in New York City had the 13th floor – so 91 per cent named them something else.
Lloyd Figgins, a former soldier and now travel risk expert, said the third floor is the best bet for two safety reasons.
He told Sun Online Travel: “Make sure you are staying between the second and fourth stories of the hotel because fire department ladder rarely reach above fourth story.
“Anything below this is targeted by burglars.”
Because of this, Lloyd says “it is always worth walking the route of the fire escape, counting the number of doors between your room and the fire escape”.
Drew Dwyer, a Marine Corps veteran and former CIA agent backed this up.
He said: “The ground floor is readily accessible to intruders and the top floor does not allow any manoeuvre room.
“The first or second floors allow access for most third world country emergency vehicles.”
Lots of planes won’t have a row 13 either.
Ryanair, Air France and Iberia don’t have row 13 while some airlines don’t have rows 17 either – Lufthansa is one airline that doesn’t have rows 13 or 17.
The number 13 is unlucky in most western cultures, as well as having a number of negative connotations, including Judas, who betrayed Jesus, being the 13th person to join the table at the Last Supper.
But the number 17 is also unlucky to some because when viewed as the roman numeral XVII, its anagram VIXI roughly means “my life is over” in Latin.
