Chessington World of Adventures was crowned the UK’s best theme park by the British Public.

ThemeParks-UK.com, an independent consumer guide to theme parks, organised the awards.

The London-based theme park beat the likes of Alton Towers and Paultons Park to bag the top spot.

Chessington, which first opened as a zoo in 1931, also took first place for best new attraction, the World of Jumanji, which opened at the theme park earlier this year.

The themed land is home to a brand-new rollercoaster, Mandrill Mayhem, and other Jumanji-themed rides like Ostrich Stampede and Mamba Strike.

And for fans of the Jumanji films, there are loads of easter eggs dotted around the new land.

There’s also plenty of play equipment for younger parkgoers, a jungle trail, and an assault course.

In addition to World of Jumanji, there are plenty of other things to do at Chessington, including the Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, the Room on a Broom – A Magical Journey, and the Croc Drop ride.

Chessington World of Adventures also scooped other awards too, including third place for Best Theme Park for Families, and first place for the Best Theme Park with Animals.

Chessington World of Adventures recently confirmed plans for a brand-new waterpark, which is set to have a wave pool, infinity pools, an indoor spa, and a play area.

A safari ‘beach’ will also be included, along with a splash pad and an adventure river.

The theme park would extend its current Safari Hotel as part of the expansion.

Tickets to the theme park start from £36 per person, with those under three going free.

Earlier this year, Sun Travel visited the World of Jumanji when it first opened its doors.

And last year saw the addition of Barrel Bail Out and Trawler Trouble, two new rides in the park’s new Shipwreck Coast land.
