To help you work out where to find your tastiest local Sunday dinner, here’s a round up of some of the best places to eat a roast in the country.

The Hawthorn, Hawthorn, Keighley

According to Instagram page Rate Good Roasts, this West Yorkshire establishment is the best place to find a roast dinner.

The social media channel bases its findings on a number of key factors, including quality of gravy, Yorkshire puddings, service and value.

The Hawthorn has impressed people elsewhere too, picking up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award this year.

As well as its meals, the ambience also impressed people, with plenty of reviewers describing it as “cosy”.

One wrote on TripAdvisor: “The meal was absolutely delicious. Waiting staff were very efficient and attentive. The restaurant is cosy with a lovely intimate atmosphere.”

Another added: “Good price and great atmosphere. We would most definitely recommend for a lunch out or even just a cosy drink.”

However, the Hawthorn was joint first on the Rate Good Roasts lists, with another place seen as equally good for a Sunday dinner.

Ducie Street Warehouse, Manchester

Ducie Street Warehouse in Manchester describes itself as an iconic bar, restaurant, outdoor terrace, lounge, cinema, meeting rooms and event space.

However, RGR felt its Sunday roasts were the thing that really set it apart as a venue.

One Google reviewer wrote: “I had the pleasure of dining at Ducie Street for Sunday dinner, and it was truly a delightful experience.

“The food was scrumptious, and it had a charming atmosphere.”

Diners have the choice of beef sirloin, chicken or lamb, while there’s also a vegan roast option too.

There’s even part of the menu dedicated entirely to cauliflower cheese, including a bacon frazzles option.

“Sets you up for a post-prandial snifter at Irish watering hole the Auld Shillelagh over the road.”

One visitor wrote on Google reviews: “We got a few small plates and everything was completely unreal. Really lovely experience eating here, start to finish. Taste sensation, really great food.”

It’s famous among geordies for its homemade scotch eggs, while its Sunday dinners have moved it to the top of Wanderlog’s list of roast outlets in the North East.

One visitor said: “Each time that I’ve been to The Broad Chare I’ve found the service to be friendly, efficient and professional and I really like the atmosphere of the cosy upstairs room with a view out onto the street.

“The beer’s great, the menu is interesting and the food really is quite a few steps above what you’d find in the average pub.”

“There is always a varied choice of roasts to choose from such as slow cooked beef brisket, Welsh lamb, turkey, fish options, and vegetarian/vegan.”

Another reviewer wrote on TripAdvisor: “Lovely food but it is the bar/waiting staff who deserve most credit here. Super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. 2 lovely roaring fires.”
