A team of travel experts at Which? have shared the five biggest mistakes Brits make when shopping around for a bargain getaway.

1. Rushing to book

The team of travel experts at Which? have analysed flight deals where consumers are hurried or rushed to book a deal before prices rise.

Despite what appears to be a good deal, they discovered that prices are often the same – or even cheaper – after the sale has come to an end.

They said: “Companies could be in breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (CPRs) if a retailer’s actions can be shown to be misleading, and likely to cause the average person to rush into a buying decision they wouldn’t otherwise have taken.”

Before whipping out your bank card, set up price alerts on websites such as Skyscanner.

Take a step back and think about the deal, and remember you have longer than you’re initially led to believe.

2. Don’t be swayed by fake reviews

Even holidaymakers who research their destinations can be swayed by fake reviews posted on reputable travel websites.

The experts at Which? said: ” In 2020, TripAdvisor removed or rejected more than two million reviews – with 3.6 per cent of all submissions identified as fake or fraudulent by the platform.”

Read reviews carefully and if a reviewer hasn’t posted any other reviews, then it’s probably suspicious.

3. Not thinking about costs on the ground

During the sales, passengers jump on bargain flight deals but forget about other prices such as airport transfers, hotels, activities and food and drink costs.

Make sure to research entire destinations before booking any flights, and check out package deals too.

4. Choose a flexible provider

In the last couple of years, the travel industry has faced widespread disruption.

With staff shortages and strike action likely to impact the industry going forward, holidaymakers are being encouraged to book with a reputable provider.

Before purchasing any flights or holiday deals, read the travel company’s terms and conditions.

5. Travel Insurance

Because of the widespread travel disruption, make sure to have travel insurance from the day you book your holiday to make sure your covered if you’re prevented from flying.
