Tesla owner makes bizarre modification to car’s dashboard with retro throwback

A TESLA owner has made a bizarre modification to his dashboard to include a retro throwback.

The driver, from China, decided that some of the more futuristic elements of his £44,000 electric car just weren’t for him.

In a video posted to X, he revealed how he managed to modify his Model Y to include a row of dashboard buttons.

Teslas do not include these as standard since everything is controlled by the touch-screen infotainment system.

This is part of the manufacturer’s overall minimalist approach to interior design.

However, the motorist, longing for the simplicity of switches, decided to install his own.

All he had to do was use an allen key to remove the infotainment screen and reveal the electrical systems behind it.

Then he connected up his row of buttons to the car, with each one looped into the circuit responsible for the function he wanted it related to.

The screen was then replaced, with the buttons sitting snug underneath it.

Once connected up, it was just like a traditional car, with switches for the aircon, hazard lights and windscreen heater.

He could even open the bonnet and the boot from the cabin with just the push of a button.

Social media commenters were amazed by the ingenious mod.

One wrote: “If I had a Tesla, I’d absolutely want this.”

Another added: “I think many would love this as an option.”

However, not everyone was on board, with the user who posted the clip saying it “defeats the purpose of minimalism.”

One commenter chimed in: “Elon tries to drag us out of the Stone Age, and this guy is kicking and screaming to go back to his cave.”

A second jibed: “The most useless thing ever.”

It comes after drivers were warned over a dangerous issue that could mean they are speeding without realising.

Meanwhile, house hunters were left baffled by one property’s very unconventional “off-street parking”.
