Ten Hag gives Dalot new Man Utd position but fans say ‘let this be the final time we see this’

ERIK TEN HAG handed Diogo Dalot a new position in Manchester United’s thrilling 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

But fans were less convinced, with many saying “let this be the final time we see this.”

United were given a major fright by Forest at Old Trafford today.

The visitors raced into the lead after just two minutes through Taiwo Awoniyi.

And Wily Boly doubled Forest’s lead at the Theatre of Dreams just moments later.

United managed to pull one back in the 17th minute through Christian Eriksen.

But a second-half salvo saw them turn the game on its head thanks to a strike from Casemiro and a penalty from Bruno Fernandes.

However, it was Dalot’s bizarre new position that had fans gossiping throughout the game.

United are missing a senior left-back in their squad after Luke Shaw joined Tyrell Malacia on the injury list.

Right-back Dalot has played on the opposite flank several times before.

However, Ten Hag decided to use the Portugal international as an inverted left-back.

It meant Dalot was seen drifting into midfield numerous times during the game.

But it left teammate Lisandro Martinez exposed, giving Forest plenty of opportunity to attack the wing.

And fans urged Ten Hag to rethink his tactics should Dalot remain at left-back for United’s next game against Arsenal.

One said: “Let this be the final time I see Dalot at LB.”

Another declared: “If we’re relying on Dalot against Saka next game the score line will be spooky.”

One noted: “Alvaro Fernandez can’t be worse than Dalot.”

But one supporter reckoned the new role suited Dalot, saying: “He has been cooking whilst inverted.”
