Takeaway dishes out cheeky response after diner’s cryptic message on order – but were they right to do it?

A TAKEAWAY dished out a cheeky response to a customer who left a mysterious message on their receipt.

The Smoking Goat on Broadway in Ashby, Scunthorpe, received an order for a can of coke and some of their steak loaded fries, cooked well done – but there was a bizarre message in the ‘comments’ box.

Written at the bottom of the order was a note asking the takeaway for help as the customer’s partner had him held hostage in the house.

It read: “My missus has locked me in the house plz help.”

But the takeaway didn’t respond in the way you might expect.

They remarked: “That’s what you get for ordering well done steaks,” followed by a number of laughing face emojis.

However, they later admitted to checking if their customer was safe before making the joke.

Some people saw the funny side of things with Wes Evans saying: “With my Escape room brain going, he’s planning on launching the steak through the biggest window and then the path to freedom is complete.

“Hopefully the steak fits through the letterbox.”

Sarah Wainwright added: “Hope they are ok, but steak well done? That’s just not good.”

Others agreed that ordering steak well done wasn’t an appropriate choice – with one lady talking about a time when a chef refused to cook the meat this way for her father.

Hannah Faccini also voiced her concern for the man saying: “I’m really concerned for this person, who has well done steak.”

Another person joked about the situation and commented: “This is what happens to people who order well done steak.”

Some people questioned whether or not they should be joking about the incident, but the takeaway reassured people they’d the made sure the customer was okay.

Thankfully, the person in question was absolutely fine and it turned out to be a prank.

They stated: “We did take it seriously mate, hence why we rang them first.”
