Sydney’s Tina: The Tina Turner Musical is going ahead with performances in the wake of the rock and roll legend’s death at age 83, announced today.

Sharing to their official website, the musical, which is “presented in association with Tina Turner“, says they “are deeply saddened to share the news that Tina Turner passed away.

“Tina Turner’s contribution as an iconic music artist and performer, her influence on fellow artists and her inspiration to generations who followed, is legendary,” the statement read.

“Through her life story and her music, Tina Turner inspired and taught so many people around the world to find strength from within. This is a loss that will be deeply felt.

“Words can’t express our feelings, so we look to one another to share the love, respect and kindness that she shared with us. Her legacy lives on in so many beautiful ways as we mourn a legendary woman. Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with Erwin Bach and Tina’s family.

“Tina: The Tina Turner Musical is a true celebration of this exceptional woman, and in our mourning we continue to celebrate her life, her talent and her joy,” the statement concluded.

The musical began performances earlier this month, with the company adding that performances will “continue as planned”, with Aussie performances wrapping up in October of this year.

The musical is Australia’s rendition of Tina Turner’s story, which only came off of Broadway in America one year ago.

The musical, being performed at the Theatre Royal in Sydney, stars Ruva Ngwenya as Turner and Tim Omaji aka Timomatic as her ex-husband, Ike.

Celebrating the life of the Queen of Rock and Roll, the award-winning musical includes 20 of her iconic songs, including Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do with It and Proud Mary.
