Sydney dad’s heartwarming sacrifice to make his Sabrina Carpenter superfan daughter’s dreams come true

A young Sabrina Carpenter fan had one chance to get up close and personal with her idol, and luckily, her dad was willing to pull out all the stops to make her dreams come true.

Fifteen-year-old Emma, from southwest Sydney, woke up at 5.20am for the hour-long train commute to the Today studios at Nine Headquarters this morning.

It wouldn’t be until three hours later that she’d get a glimpse of the 24-year-old singer and actress in the flesh, but Emma says the wait was “100 per cent worth it”.

Fresh from Taylor Swift‘s third Sydney The Eras Tour show, Emma had only nabbed a few hours’ sleep last night – and so had “Best Dad Ever” Michael, who has been with her every step of the way.

Michael, who skipped work this morning to take Emma to see Carpenter for her exclusive interview with Today‘s Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo and fan Q&A, also took Emma and her two older sisters to see Swift and Carpenter at Accor Stadium just hours before.

“I will be going back to work hopefully depending on how quickly we get there, but if not, I mean it’s good to spend some time with them,” Michael tells 9honey.

“It’s good to actually give them the experiences, that they’re kind of once in a lifetime, I think that’s the best thing I can do.”

Emma’s verdict? Her last 24 hours, thanks to Michael, have been “very fun, very memorable, definitely”.

“I don’t know what I’m gonna do now that’s finished,” Emma, who started listening to Carpenter during COVID-19 lockdowns, tells 9honey. ”I guess now I have her new album to look forward to.”

During the Q&A, Carpenter – who is performing again tonight in Sydney with Swift before heading to Singapore – revealed to her fans and all of Australia that she’s working on new music and is planning on coming back Down Under to tour on her own.

“My managers are looking at me with like a smile,” Carpenter told Stefanovic, Abo and her fans.

“So yes, yes, that is very much happening – just being able to be here performing for technically the first time this weekend has just made me want to come back ASAP, it is so, so good.”

That’s very welcome news for Emma, who believes Carpenter is the “next Queen of Pop”.

“Her music, her lyrics… the way she conveys emotions and feelings, it’s just written so beautifully,” Emma says.

“And she’s such a humble and sweet person, she’s definitely someone you can look up to.”
