Suzanne Somers’ cause of death revealed after 50-year cancer battle

Suzanne Somers’ cause of death has been revealed after the acting icon died on October 15 aged 76, one day before her 77th birthday.

The Blast obtained a copy of the actress’ death certificate, which said while she died of breast cancer after a highly-publicised decades-long battle with the disease, the cancer had also metastasized to the brain.

According to the publication, The Three’s Company star also suffered from hypertension (high blood pressure) and hydrocephalus (a build up of fluid on the brain) in the lead up to her death, which sent shockwaves through Hollywood when it was announced.

Somers was reportedly buried at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California.

The American star had endured a 50-year battle with aggressive breast cancer.

Page Six was first to report the news of Somers’ death, with a statement shared by the star’s longtime publicist R. Couri Hay. People later confirmed the tragedy.

“She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Hay said in his statement.

”Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family.”

Somers was best known for her roles on the shows Three’s Company and Step by Step.

She was fired from Three’s Company in the ’80s for demanding equal pay to her male counterparts.

Somers had recently said that while she ‘couldn’t find work’ after being fired for her demand, she was ‘ahead of the curve’ for demanding equal pay and stood firm in her stance.

In her later years, the mother-of-one turned to writing a series of self-help books on diet, health and wellness, penning more than 27 books.

In a recent Instagram post before her death, Somers spoke about her decades-long battle with cancer and said she was a “fighter”.

“As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down,” she wrote.

“I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me.”

She shared a picture of herself with husband Alan Hamel and wrote: “I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter. Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can’t even explain how much he has done for me. If it’s even possible, we are even closer than ever.”

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alan Hamel, her son, Bruce Somers Jr., as well as her three granddaughters – one who stars on The Bold and the Beautiful.
