A LAKE in Wales has been compared to the Alps by holidaymakers thanks to its waterfalls.
Lake Vyrnwy is a reservoir in Powys in Wales and is home to waterfalls as well as plenty of other attractions and activities.

Situated beneath the Berwyn Mountains, the Welsh lake is surrounded by stretches of countryside.
And one Brit holidaymaker was so impressed with the lake, they likened it to the Alps in a review on TripAdvisor.
They wrote: “The scenery is spectacular, it’s like being in the Rockies or the Alps with a bit of imagination, and it’s on your doorstep.”
Overall, Lake Vyrnwy has received a 4.5/5 star rating from more than 600 reviews on TripAdvisor.
Someone else added: “A beautiful place with stunning scenery. It really was like taking a trip to a far-flung destination.”
A third person wrote: “The scenery really can’t be beaten.”
And it’s easy to see why visitors have been impressed by the Welsh lake too.
The lake is home to several waterfalls including the Rhiwargor Waterfall, which is one of the highest in the area.
Set on the northern end of the lake, it’s a short walk from the Rhiwargor Waterfall car park.
Holidaymakers wishing to reach the waterfall should follow the Afon Eiddew path.
Other nearby waterfalls include the Pistyll Rhaeadr, which is a short drive away from the lake.
There are also plenty of other water-based activities on the lake too including watersports like canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing.
For those holidaymakers who don’t like watersports, there are also lots of other things to do like horse riding, cycling or even walking around the lake.
There are also three hide-outs where visitors to the lake can haul up for an afternoon of bird-watching too.
Several bars and restaurants are also dotted along the river too including The Old New Inn.
The traditional pub was built in 1770 and still serves up hearty pub grub as well as a selection of traditional ales too.
There’s also the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Restaurant and a traditional cafe called Something Tasty.
The lake also has a range of accommodation options that cater to every budget.
A one-night stay at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel, which is a four-star country house hotel, costs £150 per night based on two people sharing a room.
There are also several campsites nearby including Eden’s Nook and Bluebell Park.
Other nearby attractions include Powis Castle in Welshpool and Chirk Castle in Chirk.
For holidaymakers who want to jet off abroad, there’s a little-known European lake resort that’s set to rival Como and Garda with boozy lunches for £8.
Located in the southwest corner of North Macedonia, Lake Ohrid (pronounced och-rid) is a dead ringer for Como and Garda and is becoming a hit with Brit holidaymakers.
Meanwhile, there’s also a unique island next to one of the UK’s busiest seaside towns and it has three castles and pirate graves.
