ARSENAL and Chelsea have been dealt a transfer blow in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners and the Blues are desperate for attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window and Gyokeres is among their top targets.

However, the striker has vowed to stay at Sporting until the end of the season as he loves playing in Portugal.

The Sweden international added he doesn’t “care about any interested parties at the moment”.

Gyokeres told Record: “I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me.

“I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment.

“I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me.

“Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all.”

Asked directly whether he can promise fans he will stay at Sporting for the rest of the campaign, Gyokeres confirmed: “Yes. This is where I want to stay.”

Arsenal and Chelsea are facing an uphill battle if they wish to land former Coventry star Gyokeres as he commands a release clause worth a staggering £87m.

But there’s a logical reason behind it as the 25-year-old has registered a whopping 17 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Premier League rivals are looking at other centre-forwards as well, such as Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

However, Toney and Osimhen also command a similar asking price to Gyokeres.
