Soap star Kamar de los Reyes dies aged 56 after brief cancer battle

Actor Kamar de los Reyes, who is known for his role as Antonio Vega in the soap opera One Life to Live has died aged 56

A publicist for his wife confirmed to Deadline that the actor passed away in Los Angeles on Sunday following a brief battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, actress Sherri Saum, and children, Caylen, 26 and nine-year-old twins Michael and John.

De los Reyes was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Las Vegas, before moving to Los Angeles in the ’80s to pursue acting.

Across his 30-year career, he took on roles like Pedro “Roadman” Quinn in the off-Broadway production Blade to the Heat and Ferdinand in The Tempest. It was in 1995 when he joined One Life To Live as former gang-member turned attorney, Antonio Vega. 

De los Reyes stayed in the role for 14 years with a brief hiatus in the late ’90s.

His performance earned him several award nominations, including five ALMA awards (American Latino Media Arts Award), one of which he won in 2008. He was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy Special Fan Award for America’s Favourite Couple alongside his future wife.

The actor was also known for his role as Raul Menendeza, the primary antagonist of 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II and 2013’s Call Of Duty: Strike Team

He went on to reprise the role in 2018 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and in 2022 for Call Of Duty: Vanguard and Call Of Duty: Warzone.

Most recently, De los Reyes had a recurring role on Season 4 of Sleepy Hollow as demon Jobe, as well as appearing as Coastal California University’s Coach Montes in the CW’s All American.

At the time of his death, the actor was filming All American and had shot roles for Hulu’s upcoming limited series Washington Black alongside Sterling K. Brown. 

He also had a significant role lined up in Marvel’s upcoming Daredevil series on Disney+.
