Sky Sports viewers baffled as Luis Diaz goal ruled out in VERY tight offside call… and VAR doesn’t bother to draw lines

FOOTBALL fans were left baffled as VAR didn’t appear to bother drawing the offside lines as they ruled out Luis Diaz’s goal.

The Liverpool forward thought he had put the Reds in front at Tottenham.

But the assistant’s flag went up to chalk it off.

Replays, though, appeared to show Cristian Romero playing Diaz on.

However, after a brief stoppage, the goal was ruled out.

It is understood VAR looked at the goal but the green or red lines to prove whether or not Diaz was onside did not show on the screen.

And that prompted a furious reaction from many watching Sky Sports at home – especially after the Reds were down to ten men when Curtis Jones saw red after a VAR review.

The Twitter account Has the Referee or VAR made a poor decision?said: “Yes, that should not have been a red card for Curtis Jones after his foot slipped over the ball.

“Slow-motion replays really mess up the entire perspective of this decision.

“Then they don’t even draw the lines for the Diaz goal they just ruled out for offside. Very dodgy behaviour.”

Another wrote: “Someone is going to have to explain that Diaz offside to me. No lines drawn, no major review. He looks way on…”

A third added: “What part of Diaz is offside?”

A fourth commented: “Is Diaz really offside here as well? Not sure you can call this without the lines, and I didn’t see any drawn.”

To make matters worse, Sky Sports did not even bother to address the controversial moment during their initial half-time analysis with Jamie Redknapp and Andros Townsend.

However, the broadcaster did eventually take a closer look – but confirmed they did not have a still image with the lines provided by the Premier League.

Redknapp said: “He looks onside, in these situations you have to trust the tech but Romero’s left foot looks to be playing Dias on.”

Gary Neville added on commentary at the start of the second half – which was missed by Sky: “It did look onside at the time.

“I have been matter of fact but with that one I’m mystified.

“The speed of the decision, we didn’t see any lines on the monitor, it was how quickly the decision was made it was as if they didn’t have enough time.”
