Almost two decades on the W12 GT, with a 6.0-litre, twin-turbo 522bhp engine, remains in near-perfect condition.

It has been suggested that the 75-year-old star chose the colour red to match his red Bentley Continental convertible in his hit music video Nikita.

Bidding kicked off at £23,000 and so far has attracted 12 bids and is currently going for £28,500.

The iconic singer – whose hits include Bennie and the Jets – sold the car in 2007 and it still only has 9,499 miles on the clock.

Finished in rare Umbrian Red paintwork, the Conti has a full Bentley specialist service history with 11 stamps.

The car is in immaculate condition with its creme leather interior and walnut veneers adding to the sense of classic Bentley luxury.

With a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 216mph the new owner won’t be left trailing behind the pack, while the standard cruise control, sat-nav and heated and electric memory seats are welcome touches.

Earlier this year Bentley said it would be stopping production of the flagship engine in early 2024.

Those looking to own the Rocket Man’s former set of wheels should head to auctioneers Car and Classic, but don’t delay as the online auction ends on 16 March.
