Simple ‘door push method’ can save the day if your car is frozen shut – follow three steps

DRIVERS are just discovering three good-to-know methods to get into their car if the door is frozen shut.

The Met Office anticipates the possibility of snow in the coming weeks and some Brits could even experience a white Christmas – which could cause numerous issues for motorists.

One problem could be your car door being frozen shut, which can be particularly frustrating on winter mornings.

However, a video by KXAN‘s YouTube channel has given three simple methods to deal with icy car doors – depending on how bad the problem is.

The ‘door push method’ is the easiest way – all you need to do is simply lean against the car’s door several times and apply a small amount of pressure.

This should eventually crack the ice if it’s only a thin layer.

However, if the ice is a little thicker, you can pour a cup of lukewarm water over the door and it will melt the ice – but it’s important not to use hot water as the sudden heat could cause your windows to crack.

It’s also important to know that this method does not work if the weather outside is below freezing, as the water will simply freeze before it melts the ice.

Finally there’s the ‘hairdryer method’, which requires a hairdryer with an extension cord.

Using the hot air can melt the ice around your car, although it’s important to make sure you move the hairdryer back and forth as you use it.

Much like with hot water, holding the hairdryer on one spot for too long could cause your motor’s windows to crack.

This comes after drivers discovered a 40p Sainsbury’s item that can de-ice a windscreen in seconds.

Elsewhere, the ‘number one cause’ of breakdowns in the winter can be easily avoided with a check that’s usually completely free.
