‘Sensational, breathtaking and unbeatable’ horse leaves Kempton absolutely shocked on Boxing Day

FRENCH raider Il Est Francais delivered a simply stunning jumping performance to leave Kempton stunned on Boxing Day.

Trained by Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm, the five-year-old gelding relished the stiff fences to absolutely thrash Paul Nicholls’ Hermes Allen by 11 lengths in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.

James Reveley was sensational in the saddle as he made the running then slowed the unbeaten chaser down mid-way round.

He then put the pedal to the metal with three left to jump and ran out an easy winner in ‘breathtaking style’.

Trainer George said: “He takes my breath away every day. I was nervous coming over here but I know he is the real deal.

“He doesn’t have to go in front but has that cruising speed.

“He’s a horse with so many different options – the dream is to win the French Gold Cup. That’s our main aim this year.

“Cheltenham isn’t off the agenda but a French Gold Cup then King George here next year would be the aim.”

Il Est Francais was the subject of big market support and won at 13-8 after former Tolworth Hurdle winner Hermes Allen went off 11-8 fav.

Nicholls himself said Il Est Francais could be the next Kauto Star.

And punters who watched on TV were falling over themselves in praise for slick jumper.

One said: “A magnificent display from Il Est Francais who jumps his rivals silly.”

Another wrote: “That is incredibly impressive from Il Est Francais.”

One comment read: “Absolutely blown away by Il Est Francais. That’s one of the greatest Grade 1 novice chase performances I think I’ve ever seen.”

While none other than Ruby Walsh added: “This was spectacular!”

Betfair made Il Est Francais 6-1 for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase – even though the Festival might be off the cards.

But that was shortened to 3-1 after a flood of support.
