Scottish football star’s mum fights for life in coma after horrific accident on holiday in Tenerife

A BUMPER fundraiser has been launched after the mum of a Hibs player was left in an induced coma following a horror accident whilst on holiday.

Julie Hunter was enjoying a trip to Tenerife, Canary Islands when she was involved in an unspecified accident.

It has tragically left her with two skull fractures and two bleeds on her brain.

Julie’s daughter Siobhan Hunter currently stars for Hibs in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) and is at the forefront of the plea alongside sister Georgi in an effort to help their mum.

The GoFundMe page, set up by Georgi only last night has already raised a whopping £22,250, blowing their target of £2,000 out of the water.

The fundraiser, aimed at helping the family finance a stay on the Spanish island to be with their mum, reads: “Hi, my name is Georgi, I’m fundraising for our mum Julie as she has had an accident on holiday in Tenerife.

“[She] now has two fractures in her skull and two bleeds on her brain.

“She has been placed in an induced coma and is in a critical condition, we are raising funds to enable us as a family to stay with her.

“Unfortunately, things are not looking good and we as a family are unable to finance staying with our mum.

“Please help us stay with her, any donations would be gratefully received.”

The touching appeal was quickly responded to by social media users who quickly answered the call to raise more than £17,000 for the Hunter family.

More than 600 people donated with dozens sharing positive thoughts with the family and commenting on the GoFundMe.

Caroline Halil said: “I’m so sorry to read this, praying for you all, come on Julie you can do this.”

Charlene Gallagher said: “Julie you are a fighter, praying for you.”
Jade Weir said: “Sending so much love to you all.”

Anyone looking to donate to the fundraiser can do so here.

Hibs footballer Siobhan got engaged in Tenerife last year to her teammate Shannon McGregor.

The Leith side currently sit fourth in the SWPL table, two points ahead of their Edinburgh rivals Hearts, with the season set to start back following the winter break this weekend.
