LAUNDRY: A 1.5L bottle of non-bio concentrated detergent is £12.55 at ecoverdirect.com. That’s £8.37 a litre. But a 5L refill bottle is £34.49, which works out at £6.90 a litre.

SOAP: The Cussons Carex 1L refill pouch is £3.30 at Tesco, while a 250ml bottle with pump is £1.50. Refill your 250ml bottle four times with the pouch — and save £2.70.

CLEANING: Some items come in smaller packaging ready to be mixed with water. A Cif Power & Shine bathroom spray eco refill is £1.45 at Tesco. When mixed it is 750ml. A ready-made 700ml version is double the price at £2.90.

Save: £2.21 per litre

BABY PRODUCTS: There’s a cute saving on Johnson’s baby shampoo. It’s currently £3 at Boots for 500ml. But if you nip over to Sainsbury’s you can bag a 1L refill for the same price.

Save: £3 per litre

SHAMPOO: You’ll save lots on your locks with a 500ml refill of Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures shampoo at Boots. It is now half price at £2.40 — the same price as a 400ml bottle. So, you get 100ml for free.

SAVE: £1.20 per litre

FILL-UP TIPS: You can make your refills going even further by adding pumps to your toiletries.

A single squirt of shampoo or shower gel will make the bottle last much longer than when you tip the contents straight into your hand.
