Ryan Reynolds is breathing life back into beloved ’80s sitcom ALF.
For those who don’t remember, the mischievous ALF (alien life form) was a hilarious character who crashed into the garage of the Tanner family’s suburban home and spent much of the four-year series trying to eat the family cat.
The show – which aired from 1986 until 1990 – is now set to make a mini-comeback and feature on the actor’s Maximum Effort Channel as the channel’s first series of Maximum Moments.

The project, premiering on July 29, has been labelled a collaborative effort with ALF creator Paul Fusco and Shout! Studios and will feature old ALF re-runs alongside segments and shorts promoting sponsored brands like Mint Mobile, Fubo, Hims, MNTN and Ring.
Reynold’s cited his “irrational love” for the show as one of the reasons behind the revival.
“At Maximum Effort, we love taking risks and blurring the lines between shows and sponsorship because we believe both can be equally entertaining,” Reynolds said.
“Besides my irrational love of ALF growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this show was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios and our intrepid brand partners wanted to plot with us to bring ALF back to life.”
It was first reported in 2022 that Shout! would be developing “new ALF-related content” and “digital media initiatives”, according to Vulture.

This isn’t the first attempt to reboot the much loved series with Warner Bros attempting to bring the show back in 2018.
Their attempt however didn’t pass the early stages and the project was dropped later that same year after the production company failed to find a home for the project.
ALF was then left on the sidelines until February of 2023 when Shout! Factory announced that it would be developing new related content after acquiring the rights to ALF.
ALF is available to stream now on Peacock and Amazon Prime.
