Ross Wilson completes Rangers exit as recruitment chief lands new job title at Nottingham Forest

ROSS WILSON has left Rangers after spending four years at the club as Sporting Director.

The 39-year-old has sealed his Ibrox exit to join Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest where he’s taken up a newly-created role.

SunSport revealed earlier that an announcement was imminent.

He’s been given the title of Chief Football Officer at the City Ground.

Wilson, who left Southampton for Rangers in 2019, arrived in Glasgow with a lot of promise, having plenty of experience down south with Watford and Huddersfield as well.

Rangers fans were initially impressed with the first signings made under his watch as he helped the Light Blues stop Celtic’s dominance and lift the Scottish Premiership title under Steven Gerrard.

But Wilson had come under fire by supporters in recent months and was blamed for the club’s recruitment over the last couple of years.

Most fans were calling for him to go with THOUSANDS of flags unfurled at their recent clash with Motherwell at Fir Park demanding him and Managing Director Stewart Robertson to be sacked.

Manager Michael Beale tried desperately to defend Wilson last month and convince fans he was doing a good job.

Wilson was previously offered several routes out of the club as SunSport understand FOUR different English clubs approached Rangers over him.

And he’s finally sealed his Ibrox exit after joining Forest.

He was at the top of their list of candidates as he’s still highly regarded south of the border.

Breaking his silence on his Gers exit, Wilson said: “I would like to thank the players, led superbly by captain James Tavernier, and the manager Michael Beale, as well as all those who have come before them in the three and a half years I have spent at Rangers.

“I would like to thank Douglas Park, Stewart Robertson and the Board for their support. I wish John Bennett – a true Rangers man – a successful chairmanship.

“This is a great club, and there are so many reasons for Rangers to face the decades ahead with optimism and pride.

“Thank you for your support. I wish everyone associated with Rangers nothing but the best for the future.”

Wilson will effectively replace Italian Filippo Giraldi who was sacked as Sporting Director earlier this week after just six months in the role, albeit takes on a more expanded role.

Forest are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table this season following a huge player overhaul, where they recruited 30 players in total across the last two windows.

Wilson will face a huge job in the next few months with a potential relegation on the cards for the newly-promoted side.

Rangers chiefs will now be tasked with appointing his successor.
