Robert Downey Jr. seems unimpressed with Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes during Oscars opening monologue

Jimmy Kimmel did not hold back when it came to his 2024 Oscars monologue, and one star in particular did not seem impressed.

Robert Downey Jr. couldn’t keep his face from betraying his real emotions about Kimmel’s jokes, especially when he took aim at Downey’s sobriety.

”This is the highest point of Robert Downey Jr.’s long and illustrious career. said Kimmel of his role in Oppenheimer, before adding, “Well, one of the highest points.”

The camera panned to the Oppenheimer actor who looked very unimpressed with the joke regarding his struggle with addiction, tapping his nose in the crowd.

“Was I too on the nose or was that a drug motion you made?,” Kimmel said in response.

Downey Jr. was then seen motioning for Kimmel to ‘wrap it up’.

He continued on, moving onto Best Actor Nominee, Bradley Cooper.

“The multi-talented Bradley Cooper is here with us tonight,” he said. “Bradley brings his mother to every award show… I guess the question is how many times can one bring his mum as his date before he’s actually dating his mum?”

The awkward joke didn’t seem to land, but he continued with it anyway, saying, “are you working on a movie about Freud right now and not telling us?”

However it wasn’t all bad news for the late night host as some of his jokes seemed to land well within the crowd.

“Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are here tonight. Look, kids, it’s Barbie and Ken sitting near each other,” he quipped.

“Ryan and Margot, I want to know even if neither one of you wins an Oscar tonight you both already won something much more important: the genetic lottery.”

Kimmel also made sure to bring up the snub heard around the world, acknowledging that Robbie and Barbie director Greta Gerwig weren’t nominated in their respective categories despite Gerwig being a fan favourite to win.

“I know you’re clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her,” he joked.
