Robert De Niro’s daughter confirms death of actor’s grandson Leandro: ‘You were so deeply loved’

Robert De Niro’s grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez has died, the actor’s daughter has confirmed.

Drena De Niro, 51, who is the Oscar winner’s daughter with ex Diahnne Abbott, shared the tragic news about her young son on Instagram.

“My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been joy [in] my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life,” Drena shared in her tribute, alongside a photo of her late son.

“I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you. I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama,” she continued.

“You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you 😞 I’m so sorry my baby, I’m so sorry @carlosmare 😢💔. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.”

Drena is the eldest of De Niro’s seven children and Leandro was one of the actor’s four grandchildren.

The 51-year-old shares Leandro with artist Carlos Mare.

Mare has not publicly shared a comment about his son’s death, however he has since shared a blacked-out image on his Instagram.

Leandro, like his mother and grandfather, was in the acting business. He appeared alongside Drena in the 2018 film A Star Is Born.

De Niro, 79, has not made a statement and People reports he has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The Cape Fear actor recently welcomed his seventh child with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, a daughter named Gia.
