One of Australia’s very best comedians, Rebel Wilson, was tasked to host the AACTA awards last night. But one of her jokes created uncomfortable tension in the room, even being cut from the broadcast.
As she wrapped up her opening monologue, she highlighted the horror film Talk To Me, which swooped eight awards in total last night, including Best Film Best Lead Actress, Best Direction, and more.
“Why is Australia so good at making horror?” she asked the audience, before seeming to hesitate as she finished the punchline.

“Is it because everyone had that aunt who’s had half a nose chopped off because of skin cancer?” she asked as she shrugged unconfidently.
The audience was filled with uncomfortable laughter and groans before the actress cut it off and began the awards, raising her hand in a confused gesture, also glad to be rid of the moment.
The moment was reportedly cut from the official broadcast on television.
The Pitch Perfect actress also took the chance to roast the location of the awards, with the Sunshine State receiving some blows in her monologue.

She joked that this awards ceremony, dubbed Australia’s Oscars, “will be the only one serving boxed wine.
“It’ll also be the only one where people will get munted and chuck a spew in the dunny. I love Queensland… It’s like if Jetstar was a state.”
She also added that she was a fan of Bluey, which has become one of America’s top streamed shows. To celebrate, she said the state kept “one restaurant open after eight o’clock.”

Wilson, 43, also spent some time with her fellow Aussie Hollywood exports backstage.
Rebel Wilson, Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchett (still in her Middle-Aged Barbie costume from when she presented Robbie with the Trailblazer Award) grouped together to take a photo, which Wilson posted on her Instagram account.
“Can not LOVE these LADIES more!!! Congratulations Margot on your AACTA Trailblazer award,” she wrote in the caption.
