Rebel Wilson receives stitches after an on-set incident

Rebel Wilson was ready to celebrate the end of filming on her movie Bride Hard, until a stunt accident landed her in the hospital.

The 43-year-old Aussie actress took to Instagram to share a photo of herself from what looks like a hospital emergency room to give fans an update.

“NOT the way I wanted to end this movie!” she exclaimed.

Wilson gave a few more details: “3 stitches and in hospital last night after a stunt accident at 4am.”

The star is in the US city of Savannah, Georgia, finishing production on her new movie Bride Hard. Fans were surprised to hear that Wilson was continuing to work, despite the ongoing actors strike.

SAG-AFTRA members are currently striking, refusing to do any work until their demands are met.

However, Bride Hard is one of the very few projects with explicit permission from the union to continue production.

The action comedy film is said to have an agreement “within the scope of the strike order”. It’s likely this is because it’s an independent production.

According to Deadline, the film follows “badass secret agent Sam, played by Wilson, who has been tasked with one of her hardest missions yet – being a Maid of Honour for her childhood best friend”.

Now that production has wrapped, Wilson is making her way back to Australia, where she’s slated to direct a new film titled The Deb.

”The movie is called The Deb and it’s an original Australian musical about a teen girl going to her debutante ball in a country town,” she wrote on Instagram in May.

“I can’t wait to film this later this year in Australia and share it with you all!”

Among the cast is Australian actresses Natalie Abbott, Charlotte MacInnes and Stevie Jean. If the film is an Australian production, it won’t be halted due to the strikes in the US.

Wilson, according to Deadline, will also co-star in the film, and the cast – which also includes Jay Laga’aia, Shane Jacobson and Tara Morice – will start shooting in Sydney and rural New South Wales in September.

The Deb is based on the stage show written by Hannah Reilly and Meg Washington, which premiered at Sydney’s Australian Theatre for Young People in 2022.

“Not all projects in Australia have universal appeal, but this one does,” Wilson told the outlet, noting she first heard the score three years ago and started looking to turn it into a film after its ATYP run last year.

Wilson told the outlet making the film Down Under was important to her, noting how Nicole Kidman gave her a scholarship, and she later paid it forward to Hannah Reilly.

“It’s about giving back, and to do it in Australia is great,” Wilson said.

Her daughter, Royce Lillian, and fiancée Ramona Agruma will also be coming with her to Australia for the duration of the film’s production.

And, in 2024, she says, Wilson and Agruma will finally tie the knot.
