The incident appeared to happen after an unfortunate fall and wasn’t as the result of a tackle from a Wycombe player.

Ballard was instantly surrounded by a number of medical staff and players as he was taken off the pitch.

All four stands in Adams Park rose to their feat to applaud the youngster following the worrying scenes.

Reading wished their young talent well on social media as he was taken off the pitch.

They wrote: “Ballard has to come off on a stretcher – takes a nasty looking fall and needs medical attention. Get well soon Dom.”

And Wycombe also sent words of encouragement on their official X account.

Their post read: “Dom Ballard leaves the field on a stretcher to applause from all four sides of the stadium. We wish him well for a speedy recovery.”

Ballard joined Reading on loan this summer from Championship side Southampton and has scored three league goals in nine games so far.

He is not only highly rated by the Saints, but also at youth level for England representing the Three Lions since since 2022.

He is now a regular feature in the U19 squad and has scored four goals in eight appearances for Simon Rusk’s young Lions.
