Rangers hero’s son spotted going into Man Utd training centre as his excited mum hails ‘big day’

The son of an ex-Rangers player’s career has taken a dramatic turn as he was pictured at the training ground of the Red Devils.

Jonatan Johansson enjoyed a three year spell in Glasgow at the beginning of his career back in 1997.

The Finish international was signed by Walter Smith for Rangers as he moved across Europe to propel his career.

And his son, Junior could be following a similar trajectory as he looks to start building his footballing career.

And he has been spotted at the Carrington Training Centre, belonging to giants Manchester United.

It is believed he was there for a trial as his mum, Jean Johansson took to social media to promote the news.

The Kenyan born Scot posted a picture of Junior on Instagram, looking towards the signage of the Manchester club’s training ground.

The caption read “big day for Junior” before another picture was posted with Junior, Jean and Jonatan outside the building.

The youngster started his football at Wemyss Bay club Ardgowan Thistle before recently signing a contract with Ayr United.

He joined the side’s youth academy back in June as he followed in the footsteps of his father and headed to Scotland.

And he could potentially be making the step up to the English side if all goes well in what is believed to be a trial.

At the time of the move, a spokesperson for Thistle said: “As a club we are delighted to have helped in the development of these two great players.

“Both of these lads have been at Ardgowan Thistle FC 2010s since the beginning of their football journey.

“Their hard work, dedication and love for the game is being rewarded with this fantastic opportunity.”

Junior’s dad Jonatan made over 50 appearances for Rangers and was involved in a goal every two games from the forward line.

He moved down South to ply his trade for Charlton and Norwich before joining Swedish giants Malmo.

He returned to Scotland for stints with Hibs and St Johnstone before returning to Finland.

He married Scottish presenter Jean in 2008 and his most recent managerial job was also in Finland with side TPS.

He returned to Glasgow when he was assistant manager to Pedro Caixinha in 2017 at Rangers.
