But moments after the final whistle trouble erupted when Walker and Melo clashed.
Thereason for the near brawl remains unclear, but they were spotted shoving each other as they went nose-to-nose before Jack Grealish pulled his team-mate away.
Players from both teams then intervened as a melee broke out – but fortunately Walker was eventually dragged away so their celebrations could begin.
And it was the 33-year-old defender who had the honour of lifting the Club World Cup.
That was City’s fifth trophy in 2023 – making them the first-ever English team to do so.
Julian Alvarez had given them the lead inside the first minute as he chested home the rebound after Nathan Ake’s long-ranger bounced back off the post.
Phil Foden’s deflected effort off defender Nino doubled the advantage on 27 minutes as City entered cruise control.
The England star then ensured that his name was on the scoresheet when he added a third on 72 minutes.

Just seconds later City were handed their major injury worry when Rodri limped off after a hefty challenge.
But Alvarez managed to end the night on a high for the Cityzens as he grabbed his brace in the closing stages to seal the thumping victory.
City hero Foden said afterwards: “It was an unbelievable match. Fair play to them, I love the way they play with short passes, they didn’t make it easy for us.
“But the lads showed not only quality, they showed heart and determination, we’re not used to the heat. I’m delighted with the outcome.
“This is so important for the club. I’m delighted. It is massive for the club.”
