Quality Street sign up England football hero for Christmas campaign

EX-England footie star John Barnes has picked out Quality Street for his latest shot at rapping — three decades after starring in the team’s 1990 World Cup song.

The Liverpool legend, 60, has stepped up again for a Christmas campaign by the choc brand calling on fans to recycle wrappers.

Decked out in a toffee penny medallion, he fires out lines including: “Keep it simple, keep it sweet, don’t go dissing on Quality Street.”

He continues: “John Barnes, yeah, I’m back again, here to change up the wrapping game paper’s in – get on trend on recycling, let’s depend.

“Green, purple, gold and red time to top up the QS cred.

“Keep it simple, keep it sweet, don’t go dissing on Quality Street.

“Bare sweets fresh from the tin recycling, yeah that’s man’s ting, don’t go wasting your QS paper you’ll be branded a wrapping traitor.”

And, echoing his World In Motion hit, he ends with the line: “So catch me if you can, I’m the recycling man.”

Ex-winger John, now a pundit, said of the ad: “I loved flexing my rapping skills again, 33 years after the original.”

That was performed by New Order, with Lily Allen’s actor dad Keith helping to write the lyrics and coming up with the idea of a rap verse.

Quality Street now has paper wrapping on nine of 11 chocs, with recyclable foil on its green triangle and orange crunch.
