Priscilla Presley’s Son Opens Up About His Family After Half-Sister Lisa Marie’s Death

Priscilla Presley entered the public eye when she dated and married Elvis Presley, who she met in 1959 and married in 1967. Born in 1945 to a military family, Priscilla moved around the United States before arriving in West Germany, where she met Elvis.

The pair’s first child, Lisa Marie, was born in 1968, and Priscilla recalled seeing her for the first time after birth in her memoir, “Elvis and Me,” in an excerpt featured in Us Weekly. “The nurse brought [Lisa Marie] into my room and I cradled her in my arms. She was so tiny, so beautiful,” Priscilla wrote. “Elvis came into the room and kissed me, thrilled that we had had a perfectly normal, healthy baby. Then he took us both in his arms and held us.”

Lisa Marie spent her first few years in Graceland with her parents, but Priscilla and Elvis divorced in 1973. Per the BBC, Lisa Marie moved with her mom to Los Angeles, visiting her father in Memphis regularly until his death in 1977. In 1987, Priscilla gave birth to a son, Navarone Garibaldi Garcia, who she shares with film producer Marco Garibaldi.

Navarone has kept relatively quiet over the years despite his famous mother, but in a Feb. 1 cover story with People, he opened a small window into his life. Garibaldi Garcia revealed that Elvis’s music was banned from his home growing up, mostly due to his father. “I think my dad had a bit of a complex about it,” he said. “It wasn’t until after he left that my mom started playing his music again freely.”

Though he and his half-sister, Lisa Marie, were both musicians, the pair apparently weren’t that close, though he commemorated her in an emotional Instagram post shortly after her death on Jan. 12. “Big sister . . . i hope you are now at peace and happy with your Dad and your son by your side,” he wrote. “I know the past couple years weren’t easy for you, and I wish things had been different between us. Regardless, you are my sister and I’m sending love and prayers for your journey home. I still can’t believe this, I’m lost for words. Love you sis. Beijos. 💔.”

In his People interview, Garibaldi Garcia said he feels the need to support his mother in the wake of Lisa Marie’s death, and plans on taking her to Brazil later in the year. “I think she needs a reminder of how nice it is,” he said.

Garibaldi Garcia is also close to his niece, Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough. “Riley has been so good with the twins,” he told People, referencing Lisa Marie’s twin daughters with Michael Lockwood, 14-year-olds Finley and Harper. His words seemingly echoed a message Priscilla herself has been trying to push in the wake of her daughter’s death – a desire to keep their family together in the midst of tragedy.
