And he appeared 17 times during the 2023 campaign, scoring two goals.
But it was in a friendly ahead of the 2024 season that the forward went viral on social media.
That was because of his astonishing trick during a 1-0 win over Maldonado.
Payet evaded one challenge, before he put his foot on the ball and popped it through a defender’s legs.
The Hammers cult hero then span 360 degrees as his team-mate picked up the ball to continue the attack.
And the flash move received heaps of praise from those online.
One said: “He’s still got all his flair in him.”
Another added: “It’s in him! Dimitri Payet, I just don’t think you understand…”

A third replied: “Real baller, Payet.”

Payet’s stunning skill comes after he showed off an impressive body transformation earlier this month.
He only spent 18 months with West Ham, joining in 2015 and leaving for Marseille in January 2017.
But he had a major impact on the East London club during his short spell in the capital.
In his only full season for West Ham, he scored 12 goals and assisted 15 in 38 games.
Among those goal contributions was an iconic free-kick against Crystal Palace.
