Premier League champion Kasper Schmeichel lined up for shock transfer return even though club have just bought keeper

CHELSEA are considering a shock transfer move for Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, according to reports.

The Dane joined the Ligue Un side from Leicester last summer.

He made 44 appearances for Nice last season but would be willing to move if an appropriate offer came in, report the Daily Mail.

And Chelsea are interested after allowing Kepa Arrizabalaga to join Real Madrid on loan.

The Spaniard became a little disgruntled following the arrival of £25million Robert Sanchez from Brighton earlier this month.

Sanchez started Chelsea’s opening game of the season against Liverpool and is set to be Mauricio Pochettino’s number one.

But after Edouard Mendy also departed this summer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, the Blues are in need of a more experience back-up.

Schmeichel would add a tonne of experience having made 284 top flight appearances.

He won the Premier League and FA Cup during his 11-year spell at the Foxes.

But Chelsea could face a fight for his signature with Brentford eyeing the 36-year-old as a potential replacement for David Raya, who signed for Arsenal on loan.

Nottingham Forest are also monitoring Schmeichel despite signing Matt Turner this month.

Forest are still chasing Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson but his injury has prevented him from making a move.
