Battling Elijah Bell, two, stunned docs with his recovery from a stroke.

Elijah Bell was left unconscious and paralysed by a deadly bug for three months

The family have been given the perfect Christmas present after he made a recovery

Two weeks ago he left the ward hand in hand with parents and returned home

He had been rushed to hospital in September when bacterial meningitis left him unable to move his right side.

As his condition worsened he was transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and placed in an induced coma.

Elijah recovered enough to be able to breathe on his own but remained unconscious.

The next month surgeons attached a permanent draining tube to the lad’s brain to counter hydrocephalus – fluid build-up.

After intensive physio and therapy Elijah took his first steps.

And two weeks ago he left the ward hand in hand with parents Natalie, 30, and Jamie, 37, — and returned to their home in Jackton, near East Kilbride.

Natalie, also mum to Isaac, one, said: “When the boys woke the next day our tree was up and it was snowy outside. It  was magical.”

She added: “We are so grateful our brave boy is here.”
