Palmer has netted twice already for the Cityzens this season with his latest goal helping his side win the UEFA Super Cup.

City lifted the Super Cup trophy after beating Sevilla on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Palmer scored the only goal for Pep Guardiola’s side in the 63rd minute with a smart header.

The City academy graduate was then awarded Man of the Match for his electric 85 minute cameo.

Following the game, Guardiola admitted that Palmer could leave the club this summer despite his goalscoring exploits.

He said: “The opinion I had when he arrived is he wanted to leave, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“I don’t think a loan is going to happen. He’s going to stay or going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen.”

Palmer started just two games for City in the Premier League last season, but Guardiola seems to think he could be involved much more following the exit of Riyad Mahrez.

He said: “I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season, but Riyad [Mahrez] has gone so we have one more place there.

“I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it.”

There has been heavy speculation throughout the summer transfer window of interest in Palmer from both Brighton and West Ham.

However neither club appear to have launched an official bid for the England U21 international just yet.
