People are only just realising Tesco and Sainsbury’s meal deals come with a hot drink – how to get one

PEOPLE are only just realising that they can get a hot drink with a Tesco and Sainsbury’s meal deal.

The supermarket giants allow shoppers to grab a Costa coffee under their meal deal offer earlier.

But some customers have taken to social media to share their surprise at the deal – saying they didn’t know it existed.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one person said: “I might be late to the party but found out today

“Tesco meal deal £3.40 includes a costa express (if they have a machine).”

Others were quick to comment, with one person writing: “Thank you for sharing!!! I had no idea.”

Another grateful shopper said: “Blimey! Result!”

While a shocked Tesco worker added: “What?!! I work in Tesco and I didn’t even know that.”

Some Facebook users also pointed out that Sainsbury’s also offers a hot drink as part of its meal deal.

Commenting on the post, one customer said: “Same in Sainsbury’s. Any regular sized Costa is in both meal deals.”

Both deals exclude large and limited edition drinks and you won’t be able to add a syrup if you want to qualify.

Around 2,000 Tesco stores have Costa hot drinks machines.

Under its meal deal offer, you can choose from a main meal – normally a sandwich or pasta pot – a snack and a drink.

This includes a regular hot drink from a Costa Express coffee machine.

If you have a Clubcard, you can get the deal for £3.40 – while shoppers without one will have to pay an extra 50p.

It’s free to get a Clubcard and you can sign up online. Around 20million people in the UK already have one.

You can sign up to the Clubcard scheme online or instore.

At Sainsbury’s, a meal deal is priced at £3.50 for all customers.

The Sun has asked the supermarket how many of its stores have Costa express machines.

A regular cappuccino and latte cost £2.80 from Costa Express machines, although this can vary depending on location.

This means shoppers with a Tesco Clubcard can pay just 60p extra and get a sandwich and a snack to go with their hot drink.

For shoppers without a Tesco Clubcard, an extra £1.10 will get you the full deal.

While Sainsbury’s customers can spend just 70p to get the full meal.

It comes after The Sun revealed Costa Coffee slapped an extra 18% on some pour-it-yourself hot drink prices.

Tesco hiked the price of its meal deal by 40p in October for all shoppers.
