But others may not realise that it could also be the remedy for day-to-day slowdowns.
As Virgin Media explains, the first thing you should always do is simply turn your router on and off again.
“If your broadband is lagging, our first bit of advice is… to turn your Virgin Media hub off and on again,” the firm says.
“Yes, really.
“We know it’s not the most technical “hack” but sometimes the simplest solutions are the most effective!”
So if you’ve noticed your internet speeds becoming sluggish, switch the power button on the back on and off.
Or just switch the plug on and off.
Wait around 10 seconds before giving your router power again.
And you might have to wait up to ten minutes for service to reboot fully.
