Emoji are fantastic – but only if you can find the one you need.
With hundreds to choose from, it’s not always easy to track down exactly what you’re looking for.
Thankfully Apple has updated the iPhone with a feature that lets you tell Siri to find the right emoji for you.
Simply say its name and you won’t need to endlessly search through the roster of emoji for the correct icon.
To get this to work, you’ll first need to make sure you’re running at least iOS 16.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update to check.
Now go into an app where you’d want to send an emoji – like Messages.
Tap the text bar to get the keyboard to appear.
Now tap the microphone button at the bottom of the screen.
Then simply say the name of the icon, like “grinning face emoji”, “clown face emoji”, “nail polish emoji” or “pregnant woman emoji”.
You can say the name of any emoji and it’ll work.
Then simply tap the microphone button again once you’re finished.
It’s often a much easier way to find the emoji you’re looking for.
You can use this trick in any app that lets you dictate text using Siri.
That’ll be most apps that support text input.
Of course, if you know the specific name then you can also try typing it out.
This should cause the emoji to appear as a predictive option for you.
However speaking the name aloud can be far quicker than having to type it – and certainly faster than searching for it manually.
Once you get used to this iPhone hack, you’ll find typing with emoji much easier.
