People are just realising three free upgrades to boost your Apple AirPods

APPLE AirPod owners can access three upgrades which can boost the sound coming out of their earphones.

The best part? They’re free.

Apple introduced a way to improve the sound quality on AirPods in iOS 14

Noise cancellation

The AirPods Pro offer two different listening modes that can help slash background noise.

The Noise Cancellation feature blocks out nearly all background sounds.

While transparency mode masks the background noise, so users can remain aware of their surroundings while also listening to their audio.

Users can switch between Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode with a long press on the stem of either bud until you hear a chime.

However, iPhone owners can also access the upgrade via their phones control centre.

Tap the icon for Noise Control, then choose Noise Cancellation or Transparency.

You can also go to Settings > Bluetooth > [Your AirPods info icon], then tap Noise CancellationOff, or Transparency in the Noise Control section.

Improve sound quality

Apple introduced a way to improve the sound quality on AirPods in iOS 14.

The feature is known as Headphone Accommodations, and it boosts the audio from your AirPods by supporting softer sounds and certain frequencies.

To turn the feature on, head to Settings > Bluetooth > [Your AirPods] > Accessibility > Audio Accessibility Settings > Headphone Accommodations and turn on the switch.

Tap Play Sample to hear a sample.

Then you’ll be able to tune the audio for the balanced tone you’re after.

You can also boost softer sounds slightly, moderately, or strongly.

Alternatively, the audio output can be customised if you tap Custom Audio Setup and answer a few questions.

Your audio settings will then change based on your answers and what you like to listen to, such as music or podcasts.

Turn your earphones into a hearing aid

Amazingly, Apple fans can turn their AirPods into more than just wireless earphones.

Users can transform their AirPods Pro into a hearing aid through a feature called Live Listen.

Go to Settings > Control Centre, then tap the plus sign next to Hearing to add it to Control Centre.

Then, users will be able to place their phone next to the person or audio source that they want to hear more clearly or loudly, and the sound will be amplified.
