Patrick Vieira gets new job as Chelsea owner Todd Boehly turns to Arsenal legend

ARSENAL legend Patrick Vieira has been appointed the new boss of French side Strasbourg.

That’s after the ex-Crystal Palace gaffer was targeted by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly following his consortium’s purchase of the Ligue 1 outfit.

Vieira was sacked by the Eagles in March after a dismal winless run left them facing relegation.

Roy Hodgson eventually kept Palace up with ease.

But Vieira is back in the beautiful game after taking the reins at Strasbourg.

The French side were recently taken over by BlueCo, who own Chelsea and are headed up by Boehly.

Strasbourg are now hoping to make a real dent in next season’s Ligue 1 race.

And Vieira has been chosen as the man to help fans dream of a first title since 1979.

Strasbourg could now get the pick of talented Chelsea youngsters in need of loan minutes, with David Datro Fofana tipped to be their first signing.

But in the meantime, Vieira is looking forward to getting settled in at his new side.

The former New York City and Nice boss said: “I am particularly happy to join Racing.

“I know the history and the identity of this club, the fervor it arouses, the importance it has for its territory, land of football and passion.

“The reconstruction of the club in recent years, under the direction of Marc Keller, is an example. Working with him is a real pleasure for me.

“Today, a new cycle begins for Racing and it is exciting for a coach to be able to build something while relying on the values that make the strength of a club.”
