Passenger shocks old woman on a plane by playing gory video game – but people are divided

A MAN has sparked debate online after subjecting other people on a plane to gory video games.

The passenger was playing the games to while away the hours on board the flight, oblivious to the fact it was upsetting other people.

However, when he was getting off the flight, he was confronted by an elderly woman he’d been sat next to, who said she’d been disturbed by his content.

What’s more, young children sat behind him were also able to see what he was playing.

While the man could see the woman’s point of view, he also thought that she could have just chosen not to look at his screen.

So he reached out to other people to ask if he had behaved unreasonably, or if his fellow passengers were overreacting.

In a thread on Reddit, he wrote: “About a month ago I was on a flight, and to entertain myself I was playing the video game Scarlet Hollow on my laptop. This is a visual novel horror game that at times involves quite intensely graphic gore and body horror.

“As I was leaving at the end of the flight, the older lady I was seated next to stopped me.

“She remarked to me that the game I was playing was very disturbing and that it was rude of me to play something like that in a public space where people or kids could see it without meaning to.

“She said she’d been upset by it and also pointed out that there were young kids in the row behind us.

“I apologised for bothering her, although I don’t know why she didn’t ask me to stop during the flight if the images bothered her, I would have!

“Isn’t it other’s responsibility to just look away if they don’t like it?”

Some people were as shocked by the man’s behaviour as the woman he had been sat next to.

One said: “Just because you’ve desensitised yourself doesn’t mean the rest of us should have to deal with that nasty stuff in public spaces.”

Another agreed, adding: “Anything that extreme should be played at home.”

However, others were on his side and even accused those who were upset about it of “pearl clutching”.

One wrote: “Stop staring at people’s screens then getting upset at what you see. The world doesn’t revolve around you being squeamish.”

Another said: “The amount of pearl clutching people in this thread is staggering. It’s a video game, stop staring at other people’s screens.”

It’s not the first time someone has been upset by another passenger’s choice of entertainment.

Last year, a passenger was slammed by a mum for making her child cry when he watched a violent film during a flight.

The 19-year-old passenger said he had downloaded a number of films onto his phone, including Deadpool, an R-rated film.

In this instance, most people were on the man’s side, saying it was the mother’s fault for not stopping her child from watching over his shoulder.

One wrote: “This is ridiculous. Parents need to monitor their kids.”

However, others stuck up for the mum, with one arguing: “Sometimes even if you don’t want to, something on your neighbour’s screen catches your eye and it could be upsetting. I think that one is just common courtesy.”

Meanwhile, another mum was labelled “entitled” after demanding a stranger stopped watching a film and played games with her seven-year-old son during a flight.

And another passenger slammed a fellow traveller for blocking their plane TV screen with their coat during a flight.
