Passenger reveals why you should never fly with soft luggage – and people are stunned

A PASSENGER has revealed why you should never check in soft-sided suitcases when you fly.

When checking in luggage for a flight, there’s an element of trust that the baggage handlers will treat your belongings with care, but that sadly isn’t always the case.

On a recent flight, passenger Kenyon Salo (@kenyonsalo) was horrified to see that the luggage for his flight had been left out in the pouring rain, with no cover over it.

He filmed the rain soaking his and his fellow passengers’ belongings as they were soaked through by the downpour.

In the video he jokingly said: “I’m standing here in the airport in Houston, Texas and I’m pitying all the people on Southwest that have their luggage in this cart with no tarp over it.”

Kenyon then revealed that it was his belongings getting soaked, as he showed people a drenched pillow that he’d been storing in his suitcase.

He continued: “Wait, oh, that was my luggage. Thanks Southwest.”

His video has been seen more than 600,000 times and lots of people were unimpressed with what they’d seen.

One wrote: “Do these people not consider weather?”

Another said: “RIP to all the electronic stuff in the luggage.”

A third added: “Dang. I need to get a different suitcase.”

Others agreed with that point, explaining that they always used hard-sided suitcases whenever they flew, for reasons like that.

One said: “Use a Hardside…You knew the risk when you bought soft luggage.”

Sun Online Travel has contacted Southwest Airlines for comment.

Baggage handlers have previously warned passengers about the risks of taking soft-sided cases on flights with them.

In a thread on Reddit one wrote about the risks presented by the weather, as well as other problems.

They said: “I work in baggage for an airline, I recommend hard-sided.

“Bags get wet in the rain, soft sided bags will soak through.

“Although the hard side bags are more likely to crack, you will be able to get the airline to give you a new bag with an unfixable crack, versus a soft sided bag with a rip, we will try to send it to be repaired (policy) and you wait 5-6 weeks for repair.

“I would never personally have a soft-sided bag.”

Meanwhile, Brits have praised a bag that means you may never have to pay for check-in again.

And baggage handlers have explained which bags are more likely to get damaged.
