‘Now THIS is what I want’ drivers say as thousands of cars have bonus dashboard setting to make your motor a racer

DRIVERS have been left amazed by the revelation that thousands of cars feature a hidden bonus dashboard setting to make them racers.

The little-known button was revealed on TikTok by experts from AutoTrader.

The popular model from major manufacturer VW boasts a selection of driving modes available at the flick of a switch.

Accessed through the touchscreen infotainment system, motorists have the option of four different modes.

These are comfort, sport, race and individual.

Selecting one changes almost every aspect of the vehicle’s performance, from the steering to the engine sound to the level of driver assistance like traction control.

As the name suggests, the race mode turns the car into a more track-focussed beast, with stiffer ride, more sensitive steering and more aggressive engine output.

These can then be toned down a little in sport mode, while comfort mode offers a softer, more laid-back driving feel.

Best of all, though, you can mix and match elements of all three in individual mode.

Clicking on that option will take you through to a customisation menu where you can modify every element of the experience.

Each category can be individually set to one of the other three mode, while a sliding scale at the top of the screen allows you to opt for somewhere in between any two of them.

Once you work out what you prefer, these exact settings can be saved as a default pre-set.

All you have to do is climb in and set off to enjoy your fully personalised experience.

This feature is available on the VW Golf R variant from 2021 onwards, with the 2024 version starting from £35,945.

Social media commenters loved the handy extra.

One wrote: “Golf R is unbeatable.”

Another added: “I’d love one of these cars.”

It comes after the brand confirmed it would be discontinuing one of its most popular models in 2025, despite being a sales hit last year.
